"Burkina Faso: Re-thinking creativity" analyses the impact of cultural policies on the social, political and economical development of Burkina Faso by recounting the commitment of cultural and political actors in implementing explorative policies for creativity and enforcing the application of UNESCO 2005 Convention for Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
Several artists, entrepreneurs, activists and policymakers from Burkina Faso have been interviewed for this movie. Among them: Alif Naaba, Adama Drame, Augusta Palenfo, Apolline Traore, Joe Le Soldat, Rasmane Ouedraogo, Ky Syriki, Moussa Sanou, Aguibou Sanou.
The film is part of a series of videos I produced while working at UNESCO's Division for Diversity of Cultural Expression in the framework of a programme of cooperation with the Europan Union and the Swedish International Agency for Development. The objective of the initiative was to inform and enrich the decisions of statutory bodies at UNESCO with the direct experiences and the ideas of artists and policymakers.
Each of these films would be officially presented in the opening of Conference of Parties to UNESCO 2005 Convention. The initiative was largely appreciated by the Member States and encouraged the redesign of traditional statutory processes towards more informative and interactive formats.
